OnePlus on Thursday announced that Indian consumers would be able to buy the OnePlus X without any invites from February 5. The move seems to be permanent and not part of any special scheme. All variants of the OnePlus X -- Onyx Black, Champagne Gold and the limited edition Ceramic -- will be available without any invites. The phone will be sold at Amazon India website.
OnePlus had announced the same for the global edition of the OnePlus X several days ago. But India wasn't included in the announcement at that time.
"The invite system has been crucial to letting us scale our operations and has given our fans a unique way to share our brand story with the people in their lives. It has been our constant endeavour to enhance the smartphone experience for all of you in taking risks by pushing ourselves and showing real improvements. That's why we're making the OnePlus X invite-free, forever, for a more cheerful buying experience," OnePlus said in an announcement.
However, there is one more factor at play here -- the demand. Out of all company phones, the OnePlus One saw the biggest demand and hence it stayed a part of the invite-system for longer. OnePlus 2 and OnePlus X haven't been that popular and hence been taken out of the invite-system earlier.
OnePlus X, which sells for Rs.16,999, is a fairly powerful phone with a slick design. It comes with Qualcomm Snapdrgaon 810 processor and has 3GB RAM. It also has a 13-megapixel camera. While in terms of hardware it is a very capable phone, it's software -- the Oxygen OS that is based on Android -- remains a work in progress.
